Community Safety needs Office Assistants!

Semester End Paradox Hours

The New Shop will close for the semester at 5pm on Wednesday December 8th. To accommodate spring/fall thesis orals, the Old Shop will be open at 8am Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. (Seniors who need coffee airpots for orals should put in an order early next week).

Old Shop hours will be:

  • Dec 8 (Wed): 10am-midnight
  • Dec 9 (Thurs): 8am-10pm
  • Dec 10 (Fri): 8am-10pm
  • Dec 11 (Sat): 10am-10pm
  • Dec 12-15 (Sun-Wed): 10am-mid
  • Dec 16 (Thurs): 10am-7pm-ish
  • From Dec 17 until Paideia we will be closed for winter break.

Art Fair: Christmas Presents!
Sunday, Dec. 12
4:00pm, Library Lobby

We’re hosting a small art fair so you can buy Christmas presents to bring back to your family and friends at home! Art, jewelry, origami, BAKED GOODS, etc. Legit Reed people-made gifties just for you, and all pretty cheap (cause we’re broke students too). Take a break during Reading Week and stop by the Art Fair!

Final Directing and Playwriting Scenes
Thursday-Friday, Dec. 9-10
7:00pm, Studio Theatre

Final Scenes from the directing and playwriting classes will be staged in the Studio Theatre at the end of the week. Both events are free and open to the Reed community. The six directing scenes feature one-act plays or selections from plays by David Ives, David Mamet, Lanford Wilson, Tennessee Williams, and others.

Playwriting scenes will be script-in-hand readings of plays by five student playwrights.

Winter Dance Concert
Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 11-12
7:00pm, Kaul Auditoriaum

Students and faculty of intermediate- and advanced-technique dance classes at Reed present a program of choreography and dance. Choreography is by students and faculty, members of the Reed College Dance Troupe, and by students in the “alternative & altered states” class, who have created “virtual sites” for the performance. Tickets: $1–3, available at the door.

Faculty/Thesis Play Auditions
Tuesday, Dec. 14
7:00pm-11:00pm, Mainstage Theatre

The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, directed by Kate Bredeson, will be performed on the Mainstage Theatre on April 8, 9, 14, 15 & 16. Horror, or Her Mirror, by Jesse Van Buren, directed by Rosalie Lowe, will be performed on the Mainstage Theatre on February 24, 25 & 26. General auditions for both productions will take place. Callbacks for individual productions will be 7–11 pm, on Wednesday, Dec. 15. If you are away on study abroad and are unable to attend auditions, please email Kate Bredeson. Scripts of both plays are available on reserve at the library.
