Dorm Compost Buckets Available Now
Greenboard, in partnership with the Sustainability Office, is currently relaunching composting in student dorms! This program gives students the opportunity to reduce food waste and aid in making Reed’s campus more sustainable. Want to be part of the fun? Students can (and should!) volunteer to receive a compost bucket to place in a common space on their floor. These buckets are the students’ responsibility to empty in the green waste bins located around campus, and come with labels on top specifying who is responsible for the bucket on the floor (love a friendly little accountability mechanism!). Campus compost dumpsters exist behind Commons, across the street from the HCC, in the Naito/Sullivan dumpster hut, next to Anna Mann, and by Garden House. Though the buckets must be emptied by students, the Sustainability Team and Greenboard will support students by hosting regular bucket cleaning events, with the first one scheduled for some time near Thanksgiving.
About twenty buckets are still up for grabs, so if you’re interested, go pick one up from the Greenboard closet in the Info Shoppe right now and email mhosler@reed.edu to let us know you have one!
