Senate Beat Has Nothing New to Report

Highlights and action items: Run and/or vote in the upcoming Senate and Quest election. Contact Bon Appétit for financial help. New senators get committees.

The Senate Public on Monday, November 17, was six minutes long. I’m really trying here.

As usual, Student Body President Andreanna Gude ‘26 began the meeting with an announcement about the upcoming election for the spring semester. Gude and Student Body Vice President Lucy Knight-King ‘26 have been working with the Election Czar to organize the election and pass on the torch by handing over the positions of president and vice president. In addition, five senator seats and two Quest editor seats will be open in the election. Knight-King spoke next to reiterate Gude’s points and remind the student body about the election.

Next, Senator Stella Greer ‘29 made her first official Senate Public appearance after having been assigned to committees, but had nothing to report yet.

Senator Sofie Braunstein ‘28 reported that the Accessibility committee has put up signs and reminded the Reed community that there is an accessible way to get into the Sports Center.

Senator Manoel Pereira Lopes ‘28 spoke about a recent meeting with Bon Appétit and relayed the message that students are able to reach out to Bon Appétit for help with financial resources if they need them, barring extraordinary circumstances.

Assistant Treasurer Maya Gutierrez ‘27 has been meeting with the Renn Fayre czars to plan Spring/Fall.

Senator Karter Stanton ‘26 spoke for Senator Ren Raskin ‘27, who was absent, to say that they have an Appeals meeting scheduled for Friday. Stanton remarked that she hopes this meeting will mark the end of the appeal.

Senator Enzo Lawrence ‘28 introduced the new committees he belongs to.

Senator and Appointments Committees (AppComm) Co-Chair Sima Fasihi ‘28 announced that AppComm nominated Joseph Grossman ‘28 for Appeals Board. The motion passed unopposed. Fasihi also gave the update that the Student Committee for Academic Policy and Planning (SCAPP) has submitted its drafted survey questions about the qual.

Head Treasurer Yuri Garcia ‘27 had nothing new to report. Neither did Senator Justin Sotomayor ‘27.

Senator and AppComm Co-Chair Andrew Happy ‘27 also had nothing new to report, but an audience member announced that they were happy he is running for student body president. The meeting was adjourned at 4:16pm in near-record time. For once, this Questeditor has nothing to complain about. At this point, I’m resigned to my fate. If you like what you read here, consider becoming a senator so some poor Quest writer can write about you. Alternatively, consider becoming a Quest editor so you can write about some poor senator. The possibilities are truly endless.
