Senate Beat is the Tear That Hangs Inside My Soul Forever

Highlights and action items: Submit your disbursements! Take SCAPP’s qual survey. Register your club for the Club Fair soon.

As the end of the semester looms, so, too, does the end of Senate Public. In this penultimate entry in the history of 2025 Senate Publics, Student Body President Andreanna Gude ‘26 gave their second-to-last introduction to the meeting.

Gude reported that their recent meeting with the Library Board covered two big topics: AI and the noise policy in the Library.

Senator Enzo Lawrence ‘28 announced that he met with the Union committee the previous Tuesday.

Senator and Appointments Committee (AppComm) Co-Chair Andrew Happy ‘27 reported that AppComm recommended Bella Reyes ‘27 for Vice Treasurer. This motion passed unopposed with no abstentions. Happy also mentioned that he met with Associate Dean of Students & Campus Life Claudia Ramírez Islas about the SU apartment, which Assistant Treasurer Maya Gutierrez would later follow up about.

Next, Senator and AppComm Co-Chair Sima Fasihi ‘28 gave an update about the Student Committee for Academic Policy and Planning (SCAPP)’s investigation into the junior qualifying exam. SCAPP’s survey on the qual is now available for students to take in the announcements section of SB Info and Fasihi urged students to take it, even if they have not yet qualed. Fasihi then announced that AppComm recommended Gabriela Montañez ‘29 for Secretary. The motion passed unopposed with no abstentions.

Assistant Treasurer Maya Gutierrez ‘27 gave several important announcements. The deadline for all Student Body Treasury disbursements and P-card requests is Wednesday, December 10. Signators of identity clubs were told to pay attention to their emails for a form to get feedback on the identity funding process. Also, all current and prospective club leaders should keep their eyes peeled for information about registering for the Club Fair at the beginning of next semester. Following up on Happy’s meeting with administration, Gutierrez reported that the SU manager will no longer be able to live in the SU apartment as compensation since the apartment is “illegal to be a living space.”

Head Treasurer Yuri Garcia ‘27 announced that the last Finance Committee of the semester would be this week and seconded Gutierrez’s message to submit disbursements as soon as possible.

Senator Sofie Braunstein ‘28 said that she met with the Union committee the previous Tuesday about the Reed Union set for February, for which the date will be released soon.

Senator Stella Greer ‘29 announced that she has an institutional animal care committee meeting coming up soon.

Student Body Vice President Lucy Knight-King ‘26 and Senators Manoel Pereira Lopes ‘28 and Justin Sotomayor ‘27 had nothing to report. Senators Ren Raskin ‘27 and Karter Stanton ‘26 were absent.

The meeting concluded at 4:18pm, a whopping two minutes longer than the last Senate Beat. Tune in next week for the final installment of the Senate Public saga at 4:10pm on Monday, December 8, in the SU. There is a light at the end of this tunnel, and it never goes out. Soon I will be free of Senate Beat and you will be free of me, with all of my uncontrollable Smiths references and general despair.
