Sound Kollectiv is Back
For the first part of this semester, several student leaders have had trouble contacting Sound Kollectiv (SK) in order to schedule balls and events in the Student Union. SK is the only group able to coordinate sound in the Student Union because Reed AV is too busy with academic building AV support and thus does not have the bandwidth for hosting balls, in addition to the fact that these events tend to take place outside of working hours and thus cannot be adequately supported by the AV department. The club had several last-minute leadership changes. This made the startup more hectic than normal this semester. As of Wednesday, October 7, SK is back able to assist with sound for balls and other events that are hosted in the SU. Olivia Baker ‘27 is the current manager of the club and encourages students to use the form linked on the OSE event registration page in order to get audio support for events they are planning. Baker stated “We have everything set up so SK is back to being active at this point in the year… People interested in working for SK can email me directly for now so I know who to contact when we host training days.” She stated that these training days will likely happen after fall break.
In addition, we are in week six of the semester and have not yet seen a ball (aside from O-Ball) hosted by students. These events are an important part of Reed culture, and with SK back able to support them we would encourage those interested in hosting events to think about coordinating one. If you are looking for ball theme ideas, here are a few notable balls which have occurred in the past and which could make a return if a student leader is interested: Daft Ball, Fetish Ball, Harvest Ball, Disco Ball, Drag Ball, Emo Ball, Y2K Ball, ABBA Ball, and Show Tunes Ball.
