Senate Beat a Dead Horse

Student Body President Andrew Happy ’27 opened the meeting by reporting that the Legislation Committee had met earlier that day and that there was a meeting scheduled with the CSO liaison for next Wednesday. He also reported that the Appeals Board had recently received an appeal. 

Student Body Vice President Taylor Barth ’27 reported that the recent Commons committee meeting had gone well. 

Senator Stella Greer ’29 had nothing new to report. 

Senator Sima Fasihi ’28 reported that the recently scheduled Title IX meeting had been cancelled due to sickness. Fasihi also reported that AppComm was ready to provide recommendations for Judicial Board. Happy then asked for a motion and a second. Both were provided and the board unanimously approved the recommendations. Fasihi also reported that she planned on getting feedback from students on what they would like to see from the Student Committee on Diversity (SCOD) this semester, specifically regarding opening conversations about legislation. Fasihi also reported that there would soon be an article published in the Quest about next fall’s HUM 110 syllabus and that the complete syllabus would be provided soon after. 

Senator Sofie Braunstein ’28 reported that the Accessibility Committee had not been able to meet recently. She also reported that the Community on Accessibility Resources and Disability Support (CARDS) event for the semester is fast approaching and currently waiting to hear about financial matters from the Funding Committee. Braunstein also reported that an upcoming conversation will be held about free speech as it pertains to the Honor Principle. They also reported that the Bylaw Committee is setting up a meeting soon. Braunstein then announced that AppComm is ready to provide a recommendation for the Dark Room manager. A motion and a second were provided, and the vote was subsequently unanimous. 

Senator Manuel Pereira Lopes ’28 then announced that there would be a meeting with the CSOs soon. 

Senator Alastair Budd ’27 announced that he would be attending a meeting for FinComm later that day. 

Head Treasurer Maya Gutierrez ’27 reported that CARDS had requested and been granted $500. She then reported that Mock Trial had been partially funded with the amount of money they had requested, but that they had requested an expedited allocation to fund their upcoming tournament. Gutierrez reported that they had suspended their bylaw and voted to approve this allocation. Gutierrez also reported that the first in-person FinComm had been held the day before and that it had been a success. 

Assistant Treasurer Al McKee ’29 reported that they were setting up a meeting with the bookstore. 

Vice Treasurer Bella Reyes ’27 had nothing to report. 

Senator Enzo Lawrence ’28 reported that he had missed the Renn Fayre meeting due to a miscommunication. 

Braunstein then shared about a follow-up meeting that would be held on Thursday at which WMD signators, senators, Risk Management representatives, and a writer from theQuest would further discuss the future of nudity in public performances at Reed.
