“Conversation on Restroom Graffiti Expectations” Happening Friday

On Wednesday morning, Vice President for Student Life Karnell McConnell-Black sent an email to the Reed community inviting everyone to a community conversation about the new graffiti policy on Friday, December 12, from 1–2pm , and on Tuesday, December 16 from 10–11am. In the email, he announced that there would be a community conversation on restroom graffiti and hate speech. He stated that his conversations with staff, students, and faculty about their concerns related to graffiti have raised a range of perspectives.

McConnell-Black writes that “the Presidential Council on Campus Climate Immediate Response and Engagement Sub-Committee is hosting a series of small dialogues focused on the restroom context and informed by what we have heard.” If you have opinions on graffiti at Reed, consider attending these sessions. According to McConnell-Black, their aims include sharing the themes raised in prior conversations, exploring community questions about not allowing graffiti, and considering alternative ways to support connection.
